My parents met in London in the 1980’s and bought their first home, which was a terraced Victorian home that was on Farmer Road. They spent a lot of their life in London in this home and it was the house I was born into and spent the first couple of years of my life. As I was only 2 when we moved back to Ireland I don’t remember my time in Farmer Road. Growing up I was always told so many stories by my parents of their memories in the home with me, that I feel I almost remember my time there through their memories.
At the entrance you were met with a shiny blue door with stained glass windows. The windows were dressed with lace sheer blinds and voluminous and gathered curtains. This is where my shape inspiration mainly came from.
I focused on the shapes inside of the stained glass windows for the main shape and got my volume from the curtains. I also upcycled old lace curtains from Farmer Road home that my mam had held onto, which was really special. Then a lot of the rest of my fabric is upcycled fabric from bed sheets or curtains to make this collection sustainable.
