A soft sculptural collection created using innovative forms and high-quality fabrics such as crepe satin and airtex. My graduate collection is inspired by the work of Irish ceramicist Deirdre McLoughlin. She moved to Kyoto in 1981 to work with the best in her field the Sodeisha group. This group emphasised the sculptural as opposed to the functional in Japanese ceramics. It was here that she found her passion to create avant-garde ceramics. Her work is imbued with a dedication to perfecting her forms and surfaces, sometimes working on a single shape for weeks. I used this concept to help inspire my stand work as I mirror her coiling process by working with a single piece of fabric as she would with clay. I allow the fabric to be the guide to drive a simple pure form. My collection is about perfecting form through quality fabrics and working organically on the stand. Each piece adapts to the body and its movements to create soft wearable sculptures. The versatile airtex layer can be worn in various ways and on different people to create a garment that is unique to the wearer.
