Hi, my name is Maryam Husein and I am a 4th year Fashion Knitwear and Textile Design Student in Limerick Institute of Technology (Limerick school of Art and Design) in Limerick Ireland. My collection is called ILE Nigeria in Yoruba language which means House of Nigeria in English. It is inspired by Nigerian Famous artist Chidi Okoye. Okoye uses his artwork to highlight and celebrate Nigerian culture and all its vibrancy with sculpture and paintings filled with colour. Through his painting you get a sense of happiness and a first-hand view of what Nigerian culture and community is like. I wanted to mirror his work and relate it with my own Nigerian family heritage. ILE Nigeria represents more than just culture; it is also a tribute to my family especially my mum who has giving me the opportunity to go to school and express my creativeness. My collection is for anyone who loves colour and loves to have fun with style. In Nigeria we wear a lot of wrapped fabric with different prints that work together because of the colour combinations. I want to show how using different fabrics and prints can work to create this kind of effect relating to Nigerian style.
