Anemone [-A flower that symbolises fading hope and a feeling of being forsaken]
Having grown up in a rural area I have always been heavily influenced by nature and what is around me. For my collection I concentrated on how climate change is affecting our flowers. Flowers play an integral part of our eco system today but people don’t share the same outlook, when compared to the remainder of the ecosystem. I researched and experimented ways to preserve flowers while looking at the effects global warming has on them. Looking at dehydrated flower cells, I designed my knitwear pattern and digital prints. I kept in mind sustainability using natural fibre yarns, natural dyed yarns and natural fibre fabrics. The yarns I used for fringing are naturally dyed with food dyes such as beetroot and cherries.
Throughout my collection my garments are based off using the domestic knitting machine, shima seiki, surface design and digital pattern design. As a fashion knitwear designer I was influenced by the work of Richard Quinn with his clever use of clashed prints. Using a variety of techniques within my knitwear collection such as digital prints, jewellery making and fringing captures my botanical and floral overload aesthetic.
