Rhea

My little sister Rhea is a very imaginative and eccentric little girl whose levels of imagination and creativity have always inspired and interested me. My collection is based around a series of her drawings. These drawings have influenced both the silhouette and overall aesthetic of my collection.

My aim was to create a fun and exciting collection of pieces for womenswear that reflect the joy and brightness of both my sister’s personality and her drawings. My process of designing involved recreating my sister’s drawings on the garments which involved her redrawing the original drawings on patches of fabric using fabric crayons that are then hand sewn onto the garment using blanket and zig zag stitching.

My main aim when creating patterns was to use rounded forms to create a voluminous and oversized silhouette. My fabric and colour choices are based on creating a celebration of the innocence and joy of children’s drawings translating it into a fun and bright energetic collection using coloured gingham prints, coloured cotton, coloured plastics and white drill.
