Wonderstruck

The inspiration for my graduate collection stems from my childhood. As a child I spent hours imagining new and exciting worlds full of colour and adventure. Worlds which were whimsical and fun. The movie Coraline provided me with all of this and more. From the quirky characters to the brave protagonist, it was a story of two worlds and the journey it took to get there. My collection is based on my own unique drawings of the characters within the film as well as drawings and paintings of the twirling tunnel used to connect the two worlds. I wanted to create a fun and quirky collection with a touch of fantasy. As my collection was inspired by a children’s movie, I wanted to make a womenswear collection which could also be translated into a children’s wear collection. My colour choice was based on my own interpretation of the tunnel that leads Coraline to the new world. I used my drawings of the characters to create interesting appliqué and embroidery. I used lame fabric to incorporate an element of fantasy and give the collection a childlike element.
