KATIE

My collection is inspired by the World Champion Irish Boxer Katie Taylor. She has made an historic impact in women’s boxing internationally by challenging gender equality in the sport and being credited with the inclusion of women’s boxing in the Olympics.

Katie in the boxing ring was my inspiration, focusing on each round of the fight. The rapid punches are embodied through garments becoming less structured and starting to fall apart. As she loses energy more comes apart. The deconstruction of the garments is achieved on the stand. I used the hand-wrap to show protection and incorporate it to help the garment stay together. The hand-wrap is naturally dyed giving an organic contrast to the flashy PVC’S and shimmering lamés that I used in the collection. The collection is immersed in a bruised colour palette to exhibit the pain incurred throughout the fight. I worked with flat patterns and on the stand to achieve structure and shape. The dramatic oversized shoulders captivate each look. From working on the stand to achieve structure to working with flat patterns to achieve volume and shape.

This womenswear collection embodies the excitement, hard work, and empowerment of a World Champion female boxer.
