Away With The Fairies
My collection is inspired by J.M Barrie’s novel ‘ Peter pan’, particularly the mystical island that peter pan in habits. I am fascinated by the idea of Neverland and the inhabitants that live there. The fantasy land where time ceases to exist and fairies and pixie dust can you make you fly is a delightful concept which I would like to bring to life in my collection. Through luminous and ethereal fabrics and textures I aimed to replicate the pixie dust and fairy magic that the island of Neverland is built on. I aim to explore the idea of make believe and magic. Fantastical and otherworldly creatures found on the map of neverland inspired the shape of the garments. Using technical processes in the construction process of the garment such as pleating and applying rounded and swirling cuts to the garments mirror the encapsulations of the island.
The thought of pausing time and living on a magical island with mythical creatures is other-worldly and somewhat heavenly. To escape to Neverland from a world that seems to be deteriorating day by day is illusory yet fantastic. And what better way to escape than by flying with the fairies!
