My Collection ‘Saadiyat Grove’ is inspired by my visits to The Louvre Abu Dhabi and The Louvre Paris. I was inspired by both buildings’ architecture, lines and the use of reflective light.
Throughout my research and design work, I compared and contrasted The Louvre Abu Dhabi to The Louvre Paris. The Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum on Saadiyat Island is a cultural beacon that brings different cultures together to shine fresh light on the shared stories of humanity. It creates a bridge between different peoples and their historical cultures creating a connection across continents – I was inspired to tell this story of connection with my Final Collection.
Cultural connections between Eastern and Western worlds are represented in the architecture of the building, by the use of connecting structures. These structures inspired my fabric manipulation where I experimented with slashing pieces as well as strong leather structures. The photographs from the construction of both Museums inspired the shapes from which I developed three womenswear looks. The silhouettes are structured and angular to represent the development of the buildings. The contemporary glass and metal structures informed the contemporary feel of my collection and the use of fabrics that reflect light.
