‘Bilbao’
My collection was inspired by the architectural works of Frank Gehry. Gehry’s work reflects a spirit of experimentation coupled with a sense of fun and sculpturally exciting shapes. For the collection, I focused on the lines and curves of the building structure and tried to the recreate them by making paper architectural sketch models. I designed the collection from these models, using stand work, sketching, and sampling to create garments that capture the movement of Gehry’s buildings. I also used wire in the structure of the designs to emulate the structure of the building. I focused on the cool shades and subtle tones of the buildings to create a colour story that compliments the smooth curves of the garments.
