Rusheen Bay

This collection was inspired by Rusheen Bay, a beautiful area located in Co. Galway. The bay is important to me as it is where I spent summers as a child. Not only is it a picturesque landscape filled with luscious textures and vibrant colours, but there is also a windsurfing school located there that my sister and I attended every summer. Out of all the positive memories I have of Rusheen Bay the one that resonates most is the relaxed and peaceful atmosphere created there year after year. In my collection I hoped to capture this atmosphere through soft textiles and loose textures filled with movement. Taking the concept of directional change, I experimented with pattern drafting to create pieces that imitate the changing angles of a windsurf as it glides through the water. I then tested various fabric manipulation techniques to build a texture that replicated the movement of waves. In keeping with the theme of shifting directions I decided to connect my three looks with strapping and snap hooks that can be rearranged to change the shape and spec of my collection.
