Tranquillity

My collection was inspired by the gate outside of our main building on Clare street. The metal gate has linear lines of different width and a parallel line running through and breaking the lines. Under the break the metal linear bars of different widths start again but not in the same order as the top, making it just slightly off. This was something that really caught my attention and made me start to think of different ways clothing cuts the body. My pieces are made up of panels each of different textiles and of different lengths again like the gate, two sides different but working together as one. I have always been drawn to rib structures in knit so they were also an obvious choice when I was looking at lines. I wanted to explore and experiment more with the different techniques and ways of using ribs also. My colour story is also from one of my own images I took from my mother’s flowers. The colours are very feminine and soft. I felt that this would be a good contrast to the harsh lines I wanted to create in my pieces. My collection has a sportswear feel and I wanted that to be made clear. The pieces are all very easy to wear and comfortable and with the colour story I have chosen is a very soft and easy to look at palate hence the name of my collection ‘Tranquillity’.
