Frills and Frida

My inspiration was Mexican culture in particular Frida Kahlo and her relationship with her husband Diego Rivera. Looking at the story of their relationship and the ups and downs of Frida’s life and how it affected Mexican culture today. I used Mexican traditional dress as inspiration for fabrics, using different prints and incorporating Frida’s own diary pages into each design through paint and appliqués. Bringing old traditional dress and style into a new modern way.
