Shadows of the dark
The story is about a girl living within the walls of a graveyard after the tragic death of her family, adopted and raised by bats the bats protect her from an outside threat, a little island of security amidst a larger world filled with peril and horror.
The girl named “nobody” is inspired by the bats admiring there beauty and ability to lean on air, finding their way through the darkness. This collection displays her powers of observation and imagination, as well as her enthusiasm to become a bat. Taking inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci’s studies and most famous inventions, the flying machine. In his notes he mentions bats as sources of inspiration. The design of this collection is strongly inspired by the flight and anatomy of these unique creatures, which I hope to replicate in a romantic way. By manipulating fabrics such as chiffon and sand wash silks on the stand I create shapes that portray these creatures. I used techniques such as draping and boning to achieve the intended look. The inspiration of nature in this collection is apparent in the way the wings were designed to twist as they flapped.
