Saligia

Saligia is an acronym for the Latin words: Superbia, Avaritia, Luxuria, Invidia, Gula, Ira, and Acedia, or known in English as Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, and Sloth.

My graduate collection takes inspiration from my lifelong interest with the notion of the seven deadly sins. I used illustrations from the work of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri as a source of inspiration to develop my collection. Dante’s classical story of The Divine Comedy is not only structured around the seven deadly sins but also the nine circles of hell, which additionally played another major influence on the collection. Staying true to the theme, I used a colour palette that represented the sins, lustful reds; envious greens and slothful blues are combined with drape and tailoring to develop an indulging womenswear collection.
