Nostalgia is inspired by the fading memories of my father who passed away when I was 6. It is a childlike response to holding onto the past and trying not to forget. I played with the idea of dressing up in my Dads clothes as a design point when creating the oversized spec, incorporating key elements from his own wardrobe as a base for my pieces. I brought elements of his work as an interior designer, hugging and play through the collection using words and text written on garments to portray the feeling of nostalgia. I created quotes and definitions. Wadding and padding creates a sense of engulfing myself in the memories when combined with the sleeves creating a ‘Hug Like’ effect. I used fabrics like denim, gingham, printed polycottons, lamé and waterproofs to keep the playful childish elements within the collection.
