Fading out of sight, memory and existence:

“EVANESCE” is a collection inspired by a personal journey of seeing my Aunt Sadie’s mental deterioration as she progressed through each stage of Dementia/ Alzheimer’s. I derived inspiration from shapes and lines of the Limbic System, which is the part of the brain that is the centre of control for long term memory storage. I want to portray her mental decline from mild, moderate to severe by progressively breaking seam lines and fading them into layers. I used different fabric weights such as suede skins, neoprene and chiffons to emphasise the consistency of the brains layers altering as it is experiencing this disease. Sadie, who is currently at the severe stage of the condition, is mentally unrecognisable from the person I remember her as. I want to capture the beautiful personality and elegant feminine empowerment she once embodied by keeping the spec quite fitted and tailored to the female silhouette.
