Henry's Loves
My collection was inspired by King Henry VIII and the story of his life with six wives. The theme explores their tragic lives involving Divorce, Death and Beheading. The first of Henry VIII’s six wives, Katherine of Aragon was a Spanish princess who was married to Henry for 18 years before he began divorce proceedings in his desperation to re-marry and produce a male heir. The second wife, Anne Boleyn was married to the King for only three years and she was beheaded. Jane Seymour was the third of Henry VIII and the only wife to provide the King with the much longed for son and male heir and died short life after giving birth. Anne of Cleves was the fourth of Henry VIII’s and at 24 was half Henry’s age when they married in January. Henry VIII’s fifth wife was an alluring teenager named Catherine Howard. Katheryn Parr was the last of Henry VIII’s six wives. In my collection, I looked at the elaborate spec and cut of this era and wanted to give it a contemporary feel with innovative cut, fabric and technique. keeping the turmoil of their lives evident throughout the collection.
