SPLASH

During the summer I saw David Hockney’s retrospective at Tate Britain, which was a collection of Hockney’s most famous works. This exhibition is what inspired this collection, from his paintings and photographic series of swimming pools and his time in Palm Springs, California in the 1960s, particularly his painting ‘A Bigger Splash’.

Combining the linear architecture with the round and fullness of water and the body. I wanted to keep the unique colours of Hockney present in my collection as they are a huge part of his paintings. I used a range of plastics, denim, gingham, and striped cotton drill to keep the collection light, youthful and whimsical. The shape for this collection was created through the bubble hem technique which represented the movement of the splash. The circular graphic print is taken from Hockney’s distinctive ‘Rubber Ring’ painting.
