The Beet Goes On

The Beet Goes On is a collection that works with nature, not against it. It calls for fashion to march to the beat of a new revolution. One that challenges an industry of cheap and disposable clothing. Counteracting a culture of overproduction and overconsumption that causes harm to the planet and the garment workers who make our clothes. Embracing the concepts of emotionally durable design that narrows the disconnect between the maker and consumer. Slow considered processes of naturally dyeing yarns, zero waste production techniques and fully-fashioned knitwear finishings are celebrated. Vibrant hues of corals, blues and yellows are achieved using plant and food-based dyes like beetroot, indigo, red cabbage and turmeric spice. Hand dyeing, hand knitting, domestic hand driven machine knitting and Shima Seiki industrial knitting techniques were combined to conceive sustainable solutions. It is a collection that is textured with positive action and coloured with conscious.
