‘Labyrinth’, is inspired by sacred geometries and our deep connection to the natural world. I took great inspiration from the unraveling of spiral and helix forms. I combined these with the opening and closing movements of a blossoming flower to develop shapes, textures and a flow of lines. The spiral is one of the earliest examples of creative expression. Spirals have a universal resonance with the human spirit, encoded in all plant, animal and human life. These unbroken lines map the processes of eternal growth and the divisions between life, death and re-birth. In creating shape, I draped fabric and paper on the stand to develop the initial patterns and the layering effect. Draping on the stand with layers allowed me freedom in developing an innovative cut. The colour tones within my collection are inspired by the transient nature of darkness to daylight which provokes the opening and closing of many flowers at dawn and dusk. These colours begin as whites, developing to blues and finish as a pop of yellow at the end, with hues of each throughout. I used a fabric mix of cotton organdies, cottons, neoprene and netting layered with mesh in achieving the layering and plastics in blending the colour tone.
