‘A Collective Consciousness’ is in response to the natural landscape and our role within modern society. The concept behind the collection is to explore the connection between the human body and our detachment from the natural environment. I aim to capture the tension between humans need to ultimately control and our basic human instinct to connect with our natural environment. “This body is made of the same atoms as the stars; that everything around me gives birth to my experience (not the other way around); or as it is said in so many traditions that I am born from the earth – before I come back to it…to walk on this earth as if it is one’s own body” Jean-Paul Bourdier Taking inspiration from the photographer Jean-Paul Bourdier, I began working with obscured shapes and moulded forms to challenge traditional notions of what it means to be human. The collection explores the conflicting relationship between humans and the natural landscape, through the use of both manmade and natural fabrics. Aiming to incorporate the fusion of both body and nature to become one, through the use of innovative fabrics and creative drafting. Fluid lines merged with contrasting forms act in creating a sense of connectedness with nature.
