Holey Moley

The inspiration for my graduate collection stems from the confusion and anxiety caused by irrational fears and phobias. The collection is encompassing three phobias together in total: alektorophobia, trypophobia, and pseudodysphagia.

Alektorophobia is the specific term for a phobia of hens/chickens.

Trypophobia is the phobia or aversion to the sight of irregular patterns and clusters of small holes or bumps.

Pseudodysphagia, is specific to the fear of choking, is sometimes confused with phagophobia, or the fear of swallowing.

The collection is a soft blush pink and white in colour and focuses on bold, overlapping pattern pieces and is finished with controlled textures and print on top. Allowing for a focus on textures and silhouette the collection is made from a clean-cut scuba with accents of princess pleating infused with artificial feathers. It is suitable for Spring/Summer and is gender neutral.

By breaking down shapes inspired by choking and trypophobia patterns and combining them with more humorous, soft feather detailing, the aim of my collection is to show an example of clean, contemporary silhouettes of complimenting texture and shape to express a contrasting feeling of controlled chaos.

Working free form on the stand allows for unusual shapes to be hung across the body. Hand printed chicken feet were printed on these shapes, running across the garments as the wearers begin to lose control and the garments begin to take over.
