My graduate collection ‘Kivnon’ is inspired by exercise, Kivnon being the Greek word for movement. As a young woman who loves to exercise it gives me a sense that I am in control of my body and it makes me feel empowered. Exercise has always been a very important factor in my life and has helped build my confidence and self-esteem. Exercise has become a place of comfort for me, and the familiar routine of it helps me feel at my best.
For my collection I focused on key movements of the body for shape inspiration. While researching each exercise I began to focus on muscle movement and stretches. The movement that I captured in each exercise was brought into the garments through padding and gathering, to represent strength and agility. For colour I was inspired by old black and white sports photography, the simplicity of the palette also helps to enhance the light and shade within the shapes.
