Dolls on the Vine

My final collection is based on my childhood dolls. Doll collecting is a hobby I have kept on to this day, but as I have gotten older, I have less time dedicated to curating my dolls and the world I created for them to live in. Their stories became vague and almost forgotten.

Playing with the idiom to “Die on the Vine”, the title of my collection refers to my dolls being left behind and consumed by dust..

My aim was to make an A/W 22/23 Androgynous collection inspired by the stories and characters I created based on my dolls. My design process started from drawing and collaging. I develop these into miniature toiles that I could dress my dolls in, then I scale the pattern pieces to fit a life-size mannequin.

My inspiration was heavily communicated through loose-lined sketches, so it was vital for me to translate these lines on 3D form using techniques such as gathering and hand-embroidering.

Emphasising beauty and comfort, the lightweight denim fabric I used drapes smoothly from the skin. All the garments are meticulously sewn by hand and machine so that all the seams are hidden.
