San Guine

My collection – San Guine– is inspired by the black mirror episode San Junipero which features people ‘retiring’ to a utopian virtual reality where they live the best version of their life. I take inspiration from Jeff Koons sculpture Balloon Venus as his sculptures are obtuse and inflated, and the inspiration used to create these is based around the feeling you experience while viewing them.
I want to evoke an emotion of positivity and optimism from the inflation and obtuse style of my final collection.

To convey this in my collection, I used heavy weight wadding and shirring thread to create the obtuse, spherical effect similar to the Jeff Koons sculptures. I used red satin to achieve the exact look of Balloon Venus.
