TRAPESE IN THE VOID

I am fascinated by circus and aerial performers in particular. The space, energy and excitement they create is inspiring to my prints. My work captures their seemingly-effortless movements created during performances. Figures to tumble through empty black darkness reminiscent of the entoptic phenomena (what we see when we close our eyes). Though characters are at the centre and the expressionistic style prioritizes over creating a narrative. Through layering in the process of mono printing I allow backgrounds melt away into layers of black on black that transport the performers into an imaginary space where they appear to defy gravity. Their bodies float, swing, and tumble with the levity and grace of trained acrobats and dancers.
