EM-BARK

People and places simultaneously work together to independently forge a sense of character. The woods is a space that holds a great deal of sentiment and acquaintance for me. A departure from one world into a space of escape and tranquility. It encapsulates many facets of the subconscious and remembrance in its make-up, such as nostalgia, attachment, sense of belonging within a space, escape and a connection with my own identity.

Text, memories and a sense kinship to nature, all coincide to fuse a particular atmosphere within my work. It is a narrative of nature, reliving feelings and memories and creating a connection through what is real and what is in my mind. These pieces are a combination of plant forms along with other traces of nature. A layering of the real and imaginary.

Utilising a range of various practices, photography, digital art, installation and printmaking, my works are created using unsaturated colours and intricately detailed natural plant forms and patterns. My pieces are slow forming, nothing is instant, just like nature. Gradually building up an abundance of imagery, objects and memories is a process in itself. The use of repetition, placement, layering and overlapping are all integral elements within my work that fuse to create an abstracted space for the viewer.
