Emily Molloy’s practice explores her connection with various personal items she has instinctively gathered and collected throughout her life, and how they provide her with a physical link to her memories, home, and family – things that are becoming more and more precious as time passes. This act of collecting stands as sort of subconscious preparation for the artist – where somewhere she knows there will be a need to come back and revisit all of the things she has kept. Her work is an ode to such objects, as she uses what she has gathered to piece together a narrative of reconstructed memories to create impressions of moments extracted from her life.
This body of work was created during an inevitable, transitional period within the artists life, as she prepares to embark on a life of her own that is separate from her home and family. It has been a way of honouring the things that she finds herself clinging to now in this period of in-between: excited for the future but also longing to stay for a little longer.
