Mary Ní Creatlach

The artist is exploring their neurodivergence through a character they created, a skeleton called Mary Ní Creatlach. Mary being a skeleton makes her stand out as different between other characters in the comics, which is a major theme. They are showing the experience of woman getting a diagnosis in adulthood. Dark humour and absurdity are used in the comics to make light of difficult situations which the artist has experienced. The artist has created this work using Procreate to create digitally printed comics, posters and riso poster zines.

The purpose of the artist’s is challenge people’s ideas around neurodivergence, how it can present in many different ways and in all kinds of people and critique the school and the mental health services in this country.
