Between a rock and a soft place is a project that explores the concepts of restand reprieve. The artist expresses feelings of overwhelm in the struggle to deal with the fast-paced and over-saturated digital world through performance. This performance piece was informed by a three day performance workshop she attended and offered her a means to express these feelings in a way she was struggling to before.
Caoilfhinn’s practice often includes the writing of poetry that aids her in processing emotions and feelings. Her poems led her to the process of bookmaking as a means to house her words while, in turn, creating physical objects for the viewer to experience. She uses an array of processes in making these books that celebrate her love of printmaking, photography and drawing. Overall, this body of work explores the human need for rest and the challenges faced in achieving it. Through this project, Caoilfhinn invites us to take a moment to slow down, breathe, and embrace the present moment.
