Order and Chaos

This final semester marks the culmination and conclusion of a body of work responding to the dichotic harmony of ‘Order and Chaos’. The pursuit of rhythm and balance within a conceptual and technical framework has been a point of focus. Taking influence from the philosophies of Gaston Bachelard’s ‘Intimate Immensities’ and George Bataille’s ‘Base Materialism’, this proposal examines the dimorphic relationship between analysis and synthesis. Artistic movements such as Arte Povera and its desire to bridge the gap between art and the “everyday” have motivated the use of found material/object to be given space in a fine art setting.

Thematic motifs of texture, surface and form creates a cohesive bond, linking each series created this semester together. Intaglio printmaking processes such as aquatint and collagraph have acted as the technical vehicle to facilitate conceptual concerns regarding elevated forms of personal reflection and understanding through creative procedures. This intimate insight hopes to challenge public perspective and engagement with what is possible within fine art practice and print contemporary practice more specifically.
