TRANSIENCE

‘Transience’ is an exploration of the transient nature of life through the prism of memory. By examining how memory is continually refracted through the course of a person’s life until decay takes hold, this body of work is informed by a personal experience of Alzheimer’s disease in a family unit. It is also an investigation into how the natural and physical decay of a landscape and place can mirror the degenerative and cognitive decay of memory. And then, by extension, a person’s identity is eroded. There is a correlation between person, place and object as an integral part of memory and identity. Themes such as memory, identity, aging, change, disease, isolation, loss, decay and the constant flux of life are a fundamental element of this project and explored through various printmaking and experimental photography techniques.
