Enignum

My graduate collection Enignum is inspired by the folding and layering of furniture designed by Joseph Walsh. He creates sculptural furniture based on a twisting and turning theme. The depth, direction and shadow of the lines captivate me. I have created a collection with the same sense of flowing lines curving around the body. My aim was to design a womenswear tailored collection for Spring Summer ’22. I worked on the stand to create innovative pattern pieces to portray fluid lines around the body. I also wanted to represent the twisting and turning theme in the production of my garments by folding the back pattern piece over itself during construction to imitate the depth, light and shade from my inspiration. I have used one fabric, cotton gabardine in a pale grey colour to emphasise these directional lines and create the tonal shadows that my furniture inspiration illustrates.
