The Sky and The City

Dimitar is a printmaking graduate who was born and raised in Bulgaria in a small city an hour away from the coastline of the Black Sea. Growing up he remembers the contrast between the architectural structures of the city and that of the countryside while travelling with his family, as well the bright blue sky above the wide crop fields in his region. His love of the sky and the urban landscape with all of its quirks and features are a central theme in his work which takes the viewer on a walk around the city with him.

Dimitar draws inspiration from the influence of many artists from the modernist and post-modernist periods, particularly the one of the Percussionists movement, a group of painters documenting the change of the American cities during the boom of industrialisation and machine age in the 1920s-1930s. His abstract composition fused with depictions of familiar settings from our everyday lives bridges the gap between the division in the fine arts by combining painting, sculpture, collage, and printmaking techniques into a single unified body, which is another aesthetic influenced by the Italian minimalist painter Rodolfo Arico.
