LA MORTE NERA

Morte Nera: Black Death, a plague that swept across Europe during the 14th Century. I studied the beautifully ornate beaked Venetian masks worn by medical physicians, which were produced in high quality leathers.

I focused closely on the intricate stitching, metal fastenings, leather thonging and intricate panelling used in the Venetian Masks. Through geometrical pattern drafting and stand work, I created a story where the wearer and the mask become one.
