ONRYO

My Collection is based upon the traditional Japanese paintings of Taiso Yoshitoshi (1839-92) which I saw in the British Museum while on work placement during the summer. They depict haunting images of Onryo, spirits of those who died in tragic circumstances and return to haunt those who betrayed them in life. These spirits, usually portrayed with long black hair, were featured in Japanese artwork to convey overtones of vengeance and wrath.

I utilised traditional Irish methods of knit and weaving, combining both Japanese and Irish influences in the collection.

This collection is dedicated to my father, Joseph Walsh.
