Treasured Threads: Jewelled memories

My final year collection is deeply inspired by the intricate jewellery of my mother and the traditional adornments of Nepal. I explore the rich heritage of Nepalese traditional jewellery, alongside personal inspiration from my mother’s exquisite jewellery collection, to create innovative knitwear. This knitwear series is attribute of the ornamental beauty and intricate craftsmanship of these cultural artifacts, remained through the medium of the textile. Each piece in the collection is meticulously knitted, incorporating the fair isle patterns, rich colours and texture of the yarn found in traditional jewellery. By using advanced knitting techniques, such as fair isle, buttonhole, raise row, I integrate traditional aesthetics into modern silhouettes that are both wearable and visually compelling. The material – 100% Brittany cotton, wool are carefully selected for their warmth softness. These fibres allow for a range of texture contrasts and intricate details that bring the jewellery-inspired patterns to life in a soft, wearable form. This collection aims to bridge the gap between. Traditional cultural expression and contemporary fashion, o ering a new perspective on knitwear that is both deeply rooted in Nepalese culture and refreshingly innovative. It is celebration of heritage and personal history, woven into each stitch of the knitwear design.
