My women’s Spring/summer 2025 collection is inspired by the 2010 movie “Black Swan” by Darren Aronofsky. The movie is a psychological horror film about a young ballerina who challenges and pushes herself in order to achieve her dream of becoming a prima ballerina. Within the film we witness deration of her mental state, as she would stop at nothing to achieve her ideals of perfection as a ballerina. The theme of innocence to darkness, my collection records the evolution of a once-naïve soul into the enigmatic Black Swan. Between Nina’s inner struggle and the captivating movements of ballet, I explored the delicate interplay of anatomy and silhouette. I used flat patterns and works on the stand to help create shapes for the progress of my design.
The fabrics I used for my collection were Satin and organza. The colour palette, dominated by the stark contrast of red and white, serves as a visual narrative of Nina’s inner battle. Cream represents Nina’s sweet and naive personality against her direct opposite, relentless and unpredictable side which is represented by the colour red within my collection.
