A Fatal Distraction

This A/W 2024/25 womenswear collection is a journey through the timeless allure of the Femme Fatale. From the mystique of Greek mythology’s Medusa and sirens to the seductive intrigue of 1940/50s Film Noir heroines like ‘Gilda’ and ‘Mildred Pierce’, I explore her portrayal as a destructive force along with the evolution of the femme fatales femininity and career-driven independence.

In Greek mythology, the femme fatale archetype was said to harbour a deep hatred towards mortal men, luring them to their death with the distracting and dangerous female charm. Drawing shape inspiration from masterpieces by Caravaggio and Bernini, I used collage to intertwine Medusa’s serpent motifs with the elegance of tailored silhouettes and flattering waistlines reminiscent of the 1940’s era. Classic Film Noir captured the demonisation and male anxiety surrounding the femme fatale’s evolving societal status. Embracing her duality, I blend pinstripe wool suiting with revealing cut-outs and bright coloured evening wear fabrics. My design process included pattern drafting and stand work, followed by the reintroduction of my organic collage outlines through piping and trimmings.

This reflection on the Femme Fatale character inspired a collection of powerful, graphic forms, subtly infused with elements of feminine allure.
