Surviving Athlone

“Surviving Athlone” is a work that seeks to inspire students to partake in an Abroad/
Exchange or Erasmus programme. The value of an international student experience cannot be
underestimated, as it helps the student find themselves.
Utilizing their previous knowledge in photography and Adobe applications, the designer
created various design outcomes aimed at educating and inspiring others to take the
international path. These design outcomes are a flyer on which the designer answers six
questions about themselves and their time as an international student that may be useful for
other students. The flyer additionally contains pictograms and a QR code which leads to an
animation with a water background and effect. Representing both the River Shannon and
their journey. Additionally, fourteen posters were created with pictograms, which are similar
to street signs, yet reflect moments of their time in the TUS Athlone, such as moments that
happened in the university or in their free time.
The flyer took the longest to design, as various objects kept getting changed, such as the
colours from a teal to an orange/ yellow matching the posters. The same font Elza is used for
both the flyer and the posters.
