Key Moments
It takes a few seconds for someone’s life to change. It takes time to adapt and accept a new norm. My mum became ill. She is my star and rock. When our world was shaking, I was more aware of the beauty in everyday life, returning to the basics, seeing the blue sky and breathe, seeing the grace of nature in roses, and feeling the warm sun.
This is showcased in the environmentally friendly, naturally dyed colours of the wool and silk materials used in this collection, along with naturally made screen-printing inks. I wanted to create thoughtful but robust explorations in textiles.
I returned to key moments in my life that stand like pillars in the middle of water, those I can hold on to. These moments give me strength, protection, motivation, and bring me back to who I am. These are the moments I do not forget. They knit together, forming the textile of my life. The collection has key moments embedded, with the metal representing me grasping onto things that are fracturing. The colours represent the range of emotions I felt over the last year. This collection is grounded on appreciation, acceptance and being steadfast in adversity.
