“I consider space to be a material. The articulation of space has come to take precedence over other concerns. I attempt to use sculptural form to make space distinct.” -Richard Serra

Siobhán Hehir explores a conversation between architecture and space. Looking at a tension between structures and nature, her work considers how physical forms are situated within the landscape. The way in which architectural structures are arranged within the landscape, could be viewed similarly to how invented forms are placed within the studio space.

The work is concentrated on progressing out of the frame, utilising the surrounding space. Painted movements begin to expand outside of the canvas and onto the wall of the space. Works are produced in a site-specific manner and therefore relate to the architectural fabric of the space. The process of constructing the work considers the nature of scale, colour, and materiality in relation to the space.
