Making reference to the traditional era of the classic Rembrandt style as a point of departure, Keating uses a contemporary approach to capture an artificial light and color. The work sets a tone of intimacy with the viewer by breaking down the barriers of nudity within Keating’s work.
Keating’s playful tone of seduction intertwines with ideas of how the female form was traditionally experienced through the male gaze is to be perceived by the audience, using methods of the male gaze to seduce the viewer. the presentation of the photograph’s in a unique purpose built environment functions to enhance the viewers experience.
The intimacy created by the curtained space serves to confront the viewer with the direct gaze of the artist as a model. With Keating’s work there is no hidden agenda as the work bares all, communicating honestly to herself and the viewer is essential.
