Protea

My collection was inspired by my South African heritage. In creating my collection I used the lifecycle of the King Protea, South Africa’s national flower to reflect my upbringing and my immigration to Ireland. The King Protea was present in many special events in my childhood. The change of cultures that I experienced is shown in the direction of line emphasized by the moulded wood which captures my growth and development at a young age.

My intension with my designs was to create a line up so that the technical aspects of the designs appear to be as organic as the Protea itself. The colour story reflects the various shades of vibrant pinks in the Protea.

I am proud of my South African heritage and its culture and this collection is a tribute to how it has influenced me as I have grown and matured even though I live in Ireland.
