To Kill a Mocking-Jay
My collection is inspired by the hunger games and District 13 a state within the fictional world of panam, it and was thought to be destroyed by a dictatorship style government that rule panam called the capitol. The people of district 13 produced nuclear weapons and technology.
And the idea of a civilization being a destroyed by the product it made, through the power controlling government fascinated me. I honed in on the idea of nuclear weapons and used this symbolism as starting point to design from and I began using a variety of mediums to express the tension I wanted to create in my garments. Through looking at various nuclear symbols I began to cross reference architecture and became interested in garments being viewed as a second home for the body refugee to take within.
