Desire

I took my inspiration for this collection from the 1951 film adaption of a Streetcar Named Desire. The contrast between the exaggerated masculinity and femininity of the two main characters in the film is what first caught my interest and is something I have endeavoured to bring through the collection. I have incorporated an innovative approach to cut that draws on influences from 1940’s menswear and lingerie but also evokes the sensation of too tight embraces and the idea of being trapped. I used a seaming texture to interrupt and alter the garments bring a sense of femininity through all of the looks. The resulting collection creates a vision of modern femininity and elegance that takes inspiration from the past but is fully rooted in the present.
