The Binary Oppositions and The Myth of Sisyphus

Even though I am studying in the painting faculty my works are always a mix of different mediums.  However, I have a strong tendency to suppress other mediums to serve painting.

Treating Abstraction and Representation as a Binary Pair

I work with both abstraction and representation.  Although the two painting modes are polarising each other, they are both essential to my painting structure.  They take on different issues and both adequate and inadequate in different aspects.  Therefore, I cannot do without one or the other.

My abstraction works obey the criterion of High Modernist ideas of medium specific and non-referential.  On the other hand, my representational works are always challenging the relationships between photography and painting and the pursuit of transcendental meanings and functions beyond pictorial facial values.

I would describe my working methods as a hunter gatherer in my own environment in which I salvage suitable materials to feed my artistic needs.  I enjoy working with objects and materials as they all have different characters, hidden usages and meanings.  I always discover or realise something news when working with them which in return will add new dimensions and meanings to the work in progress.
