Interlaced
‘Interlaced’ explores the idea of connection—how we are linked across generations and borders through the shared language of textiles. This collection is rooted in the belief that textiles carry memory. Techniques, patterns, and materials are passed down, adapted, and reinterpreted, forming an ongoing dialogue between past and present. I draw inspiration from intergenerational practices such as knit, crochet and lace making, in particular ‘Limerick Lace’ which I feel deeply connected to through my heritage. viewing them not only as craft but a shared practice connecting us through time. These processes become a means of honouring those who came before us while creating space for contemporary expression.
Visual inspiration was gathered during my time interning within a Portuguese knitwear studio, my time there emphasized how globally we are connected through our shared textile processes, how threads-literal and metaphorical-bind us together. The collection reflects a shared human experience: care, resilience, and continuity. As many designers before me were inspired by cross-cultural experiences, I was inspired by Portugal, both the beauty of the man-made and natural world that surrounded me. Ultimately, my work invites reflection on the relationships we inherit and the ones we create, suggesting that through textiles, we participate in a collective, evolving narrative that transcends time and place.
