BA Fashion (with Collection Design)

My inspiration comes from the flow and strength of Pilates, combined with the graceful movements of dance. This collection highlights the natural rhythm and beauty of the body. Pilates, invented by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, focuses on controlled movements that emphasise core stability and flexibility. This philosophy complements dance, particularly Martha Graham’s “Lamentation,” which conveys themes of loss and strength through expressive movement. By blending these influences, my designs celebrate physical form and evoke the emotional narratives our bodies can express.

Remake Project - Chanel Haute Couture 1992

My project is based on a remake of an existing fashion design by a well-known designer. For this remake project, I chose to recreate the Chanel Haute Couture 1992 dress. The purpose of the project was to study the original garment carefully and understand the design, shape, structure, and fine details that make it unique. By remaking this dress, I was able to look more closely at the craftsmanship and elegance that Chanel is famous for. I also learned a lot during the making process, especially about boning and wadding, which helped create the structure of the dress and make it stand out in the way the original design does. Overall, this project helped me improve my construction skills and gave me a better understanding of couture techniques and garment shaping.

Elastic Bloom

This project developed from my original graduate collection, which was inspired by the flow, strength, and movement found in Pilates and dance. For this altered version, I wanted to take the original idea in a new direction by creating a more sporty-chic feel, rather than the more draped and sophisticated style of the first collection. I used more jersey and stretch fabrics throughout the designs to reflect comfort, flexibility, and movement, which connect strongly to both dance and Pilates. I also changed the colour palette completely, choosing softer muted and pastel tones to create a lighter and calmer mood. These changes allowed me to keep the original inspiration of body movement and expression, while giving the collection a more modern, active, and relaxed feel.
